almost

""Meaningless! Meaningless!"says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless."What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever. The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises. The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course. All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again. All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow." Ecclesiastes 1.

when i was reading this passage last night, i thought it was very interesting that the teacher in this passage asks the same questions we do. what is our purpose? it just seemed to be very comforting that this is (almost) a timeless question. especially with exams coming close, and deadlines i am guilty of trying to figure out this purpose. i know what it is, but the difficulty is in applying it to all aspects of life. in the end it's just a greater distraction, and thus i procrastinate and then it just gets more stressful: a never ending cycle.

on the topic of asking questions: where does the word deadline come from? i looked it up on wikipedia; but this "valuable" source of information fails me on this ... from other google sources i learn it is this (see picture below). despite the fact he is a deadline; i think he is actually kind of cute.
as for the hockey game tonight: after the first half of the game i was ready to hand in my two weeks notice. it was not going well. but with only the second overtime this season the senators were able to get their skates back on, and redden buried the puck. it was a bit of a disappointing game from the aspect of the first line; good thing its not my favourite because of skill (or looks for that matter); thus, i will happily be cheering for the next game.
_
in the meantime: i am hoping to get this paper done on the modernization in Japan; while singing along to ... actually no song for the week. that is probably why everything seems to be a bit off this week: i am just not tuned right. any suggestions?
